Adoption Policy

WeHelpAnimals.net (WHA) is committed to providing each rescue with the highest standard of care while finding loving homes that meet each rescue’s unique needs. WHA carefully evaluates prospective adopters to ensure the best possible match, recognizing that successful adoptions are built on compatibility, commitment, and lifelong care. Our goal is not simply to place rescues in homes, but to create long-lasting relationships that allow every rescue to live a healthy, happy, and loved life. The following policy guides WHA decisions in making decisions regarding a rescue’s placement.

  • WHA requires the adopter to be at least 25 years old.
  • WHA requires an adoption fee required at the time of adoption. Adoption fees range from $350 to $650 depending on the age, breed, and health of the rescue. The adoption fee helps with the rescue's medical expenses. The adoption fee is established at the time an application is emailed and must be paid prior to or at the time of the adoption.
  • WHA gives a trial period of up to 3 weeks and if the rescue is deemed not compatible, the rescue must be returned, and the adoption fee is refunded if requested.
  • WHA’s adoption process includes completing an online application, reference checks, phone interviews, in-home visit or required photos (pre and/or post adoption), a meet/greet with family members and household pets.
  • WHA requires a vet reference regarding current and/or previous pets. The vet reference check includes confirmation each pet is spayed/neutered, has regular exams, is up-to-date on vaccines (or proof of titer testing), has heartworm testing, heartworm/flea prevention is purchased, and other medical procedures are done as recommended, for example dentals and bloodwork. Due to health reasons or age, some veternarian services may not be recommended and must be documented in medical records or confirmed by the pet's veterinarian.
  • WHA’s adoption agreement must be agreed to and signed before adoption is finalized.
  • WHA in most cases requires a secure fenced area. Fence requirements are based on each rescue’s needs. WHA does not adopt to families with invisible fencing and with swimming pools without adequate secured fencing.
  • WHA does not transport rescues. All adopters must pick up rescues in Franklin, TN.
  • WHA prefers local adoptions, but out-of-state adoptions will be considered and must meet all WHA adoption requirements.
